Amber Holcomb |
Amber Holcomb, 19, was eliminated on "American Idol" tonight marking the first departure of a Top 10 talent that will be truly missed. Angie Miller, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison are in the Top 3 and will continue to sing next week in hopes of the big win on May 16.
Amber, who was one of the most consistently show-stopping singers on "Idol" this year had a great run, and should be very proud of herself after being eliminated in the Top 40 round last year.
Over the last few months, the Shepherd, Texas native became known for her ability to turn old standards, such as "My Funny Valentine" and Barbra Streisand's "What are you Doing for the Rest of Your Life" into stand-up-and-cheer moments. She was also recognized for her striking beauty and poise, which the judges seemed to acknowledge each and every week.
Nicki Minaj, who had a serious girl-crush on Amber, said more than once that the teen could pursue modeling if the whole singing thing doesn't work out.
Amber received her share of standing ovations this season, and some will say Kree may have deserved to go home first, but in the inevitable truth is only one singer is going to win this season and someone had to go. Amber was a shining star, but the other girls shined just a little brighter.
And at least Amber, who reminded some of a young Whitney Houston, got to go out on top, singing "My Funny Valentine" again in her last performance Wednesday night.
Hopefully Amber has a future in the music business. She has a good image and a great voice.
